Dr. Hobson has been a member of the CMT faculty since 1996 when he arrived at OSU. In 1969, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas and immediately obtained a Master's degree in Physics from Kansas State University in 1971. In 1994, Dr. Hobson obtained a second Master's in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas, and continued to complete his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in 1996.

Dr. Hobson's construction career began in 1971 with construction and maintenance supervisory positions with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in several Kansas locations. In 1974, Dr. Hobson joined Wilson Constructors, Salina, Kansas as a Project Manager in their commercial division, and advanced to Bulk Material Division Vice President when he resigned in 1979.

In 1979, he co-founded Coronado Engineering, Inc., a national design-build industrial contractor in Salina, KS. He served as president until 1990 and then continued as Technical Director until 1994. While at Coronado Engineering, Dr. Hobson was responsible for the design and construction of over 600 projects in 38 states.

Dr. Hobson's areas of academic interest include: estimating and bidding, scheduling, concrete design, project management, and construction profitability. While at OSU, Dr. Hobson has taught numerous seminars for OSU Engineering Extension, the Associated General Contractors, and for various construction companies in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas. His professional affiliations include the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Council for Construction Education, and he is a past board member and regional director of the Associated Schools of Construction. Dr. Hobson is a licensed professional engineer in Oklahoma, and holds a general contractor's license in Louisiana, California, and Florida.

Dr. Hobson has served as co-advisor of the student professional organization, Construction Management Society, and as advisor to the construction honor society, Sigma Lambda Chi. He has also coached the Student Competition Construction Management Team for five years, and the Student Competition Heavy/Civil Team for four years.

Dr. Hobson's hobbies include restoring Allis-Chalmers tractors and farm equipment, small construction and remodel projects, and maintaining his small farm

Dr. Hobson is proud of his involvement in CMT at OSU.  He enjoys being part of a nationally recognized program and also enjoys working with an enthusiastic student body.
